Reflection : 1st Assignment

By summarizing empirical study related to CALL (Computer assisted Language Learning) is actually giving chance to the students to get better understanding on what it is all about.

Why? It is because…

•   Summarizing will encourage students to read the whole articles and understand it. 
•   Students must re-write what they understand in their own words.
•  Students will get familiar on how others/researchers applied call in language teaching.

But, students must know their ability by not to choose a long articles or journal to be summarized. This is because…

•  It leads to the plagiarism where students tend to copy the important part in the article if the article is lengthy.

•  Students tend to paste it on to their work without synthesizing or paraphrasing it.

So, we had chosen an appropriate article. Short, simple and understandable.

Reflection: 2nd Assignment

By doing this assignment, we got much information regarding our topic which is related to bulletin board. What we have benefits from this assignment are:

• Get to know what actually a bulletin board is.

• We could differentiate bulletin board with social network system and blogs.

• We could apply the discussion on bulletin board as our corpus.

After all, we realize that:

• Bulletin board actually not so popular like facebook, twitter or other SNS. This is because; all these SNS are for us to having fun or know about other people. However, Bulletin Board system is for education. It has more information and the place where people can share opinions about specific topics.

• The language use between bulletin board user and SNS users are different.

•  There are many others system in World Wide Web that we can use and search for other than the usual one.

But, for this assignment, the corpus that we found out is restricted because of its hard to find the suitable one. Bulletin board sometimes not user friendly or maybe we are not use to it.

Reflection: 3rd Assignment

As a linguistic student, we should know more about corpus linguistic. Our topic is Computational Stylistic. While doing this assignment:

• We had face difficulty in understand the real definition and meaning of the topic. At first, it was very challenging for us in doing this assignment. Honestly, we were having hard time in finding the research about it. But, we manage to do it at the end of it. Alhamdulillah…

• By reviewing other researches on Computational stylistics, we get better understanding about it.

• Trough this assignment, we get to know that we can use concordance in computational stylistics research.

After all, we satisfied with our performance in doing this assignment. It is so interesting.We hope that what we have presenting in class can give benefits to others including ourselves.

Reflection: Blog

In general, by creating a blog as class assessment is good and applicable because:

• All graded assignment and extra works from students are compiled.

•  It is appropriate and suitable as we are in Computer Application class.

• All students’ works could be an important resource to others.

• It is good to apply the technology in learning process.

Besides that, the lessons for the whole semester need students to do many presentations and read journals and articles instead of teacher-students approach. 

•  It is good because its encourage students to express and voice out their own understanding about each topic that had been discussed.

•  It is applicable for level 4 subject.

• It creates more class discussion.
